This programme aims to promote the delivery of extension and other services in a self-employment mode. It is designed to tap the expertise available in the large pool of agriculture graduates and offer them with the opportunity to set up their own AgriClinic and Agribusiness Centre that can offer professional extension services to large number of farmers. To support this programme, the Government is also providing start-up training to graduates in agriculture or allied sectors like horticulture, sericulture, veterinary sciences, forestry, dairy, poultry farming and fisheries etc.

Crop productivity improved in some parts of the country but the project did not have a lasting impact as it mainly entailed technical information through posters and slogans. It has been proposed to integrate the scheme with other GoI initiatives or with other NABARD schemes. Integration is also required with the extension system and the research system. KVK is a project of ICAR, launched with an aim to increase agriculture production and productivity and at the same time generate self employment opportunities in the villages. There are 589 networked KVKs at the district level involved in refinement and demonstration of technology/products. To create gainful self-employment opportunities to unemployed agricultural graduates, agricultural diploma holders, intermediate in agriculture and biological science graduates with PG in agri-related courses.
